TRIGGER WARNING: This article recounts Rose’s alleged experience of sexual assault in detail.
Ruby Rose, a prominent Australian actress and model, best known for her role on the hit show Orange is the New Black, has come out with allegations of sexual assault against Katy Perry.
The model posted a reply to a post on threads, writing, “In the comments, Rose wrote, “Katy Perry s*xual a**aulted me at spice market nightclub in Melbourne. Who gives a sh*t what she thinks.”
Ruby Rose and Katy Perry have, in the past, also been involved in an online feud. In 2017, Rose criticized the song Swish Swish by Perry, which was at the time believed to be a diss track aimed at Taylor Swift, with whom Rose was good friends.
The model and actress accused Perry of being a bully and said that she personally felt ‘triggered’ by people who were not held accountable.
Now, almost a decade since that, Rose has made major accusations against Perry. After she posted the initial reply with the claim of the s*xual assault, someone tried to make a crude joke in reply to Rose, writing, “She kissed a girl, and you didn’t like it?”
Rose responded to the comment, relaying everything she alleges happened, “She didn’t kiss me. She saw me ‘resting’ on my best friend’s lap to avoid her and bent down, pulled her underwear to the side, and rubbed her disgusting v**ina on my face until my eyes snapped open and I projectile vomited on her.”
She then shared that she had publicly only talked about this as a ‘funny little drunk story’ as she did not know what else to do at the time.
She shared that she kept everything private because Perry later helped her to later get a U.S. visa. She recalled her hesitation, writing, “I was only in my early 20s. I’m now 40. It has taken almost 2 decades to say this publicly.”
“Though I am so grateful to have made it long enough to find my voice, it just shows how much of an impact trauma and s**ual a**ault takes… But I DID tell yall she wasn’t a good person. Instead I got attacked by.. everyone.”
She shared why she was opening up about it now, saying that she needed to “get it out of [her] body.”
She went on to write, “Before I open up about something incredibly raw and traumatic, I tell myself ‘it’s ok, you don’t need people to believe you, you just need to get it out of your poor body, before it gives you cancer. But then I see this post and … tears consume me, in a good way. Thank you.”
This is not the first time Katy Perry has been accused of inappropriate behavior. In 2012, footage of her touching Justin Bieber’s backside while backstage in London circulated online. At the time Bieber was 18, while she was 28.
In 2017, a video of her touching Shawn Mendes during an interview made rounds online. The moment caught the 18-year-old singer by surprise as he visibly reacted on camera.
In 2018, Perry attracted criticism after she kissed contestant Benjamin Glaze on American Idol, which he later said made him uncomfortable.
Perry has spoken up about the accusations in the past, she said, “I don’t want to say ‘guilty until proven innocent’ but there’s no checks and balances: a headline just flies, right? And there’s no investigation of what it is.”
She ended by saying, “I don’t comment on all the things that are said about me because if I chase that dragon, it would be about true and false-ing my whole life. It’s distracting from the real movement.”
A representative for Perry has responded to the claims and denied them in a statement. They said, “The allegations being circulated on social media by Ruby Rose about Katy Perry are not only categorically false, they are dangerous, reckless lies. Ms. Rose has a well-documented history of making serious public allegations on social media against various individuals, claims that have repeatedly been denied by those named.”
