This year for Prince William and Kate Middleton has been way different from last year. The Princess of Wales was diagnosed with cancer in February last year, but in September, after undergoing cancer treatment, she was luckily cancer-free. She has begun taking on more and more royal duties since, for example, joining the rest of the family for Trooping the Colour.
Still, King Charles is the king, and William will have to wait to take over. However, one friend of the couple anonymously claims that there has been a “major” development. Are William and Kate ready to take over as king and queen already?
Kate Middleton’s return to the royal stage has been celebrated by royal fans worldwide. The beloved princess’ cancer diagnosis was very worrying, not only for fans but mainly, of course, for her family, but luckily, she made it through. The Princess of Wales has made high-profile appearances at, for example, The Order of the Garter Service and most recently at Trooping the Colour.
Still, Kate is not rushing back to her regular schedule and has decided at the last minute to pull out of the Royal Ascot on June 18. She did not explain why, but per People Magazine, she was “said to be disappointed.”
Prince William and Kate Middleton have been married for over 16 years, and this last year has been tough on them. Their relationship has been put to the test, but while Kate’s cancer treatment has been rough, it has, in some way, brought them closer together.
When appearing in public, the couple is seen smiling, holding hands, and showing their love towards one another. At Trooping the Colour just a week ago, there was no difference.

The Princess of Wales wore a special pair of earrings to the big event, paying tribute to the late Queen Elizabeth II. Not only has she been praised time and time again for her way of raising her kids, but also as a “huge assett” to the Royal Family by King Charles.
Kate might have been married into the Royal Family. However, according to Christopher Andersen, author of The King, Charles sees her as the secret weapon to help secure the monarchy’s future. However, advising her on her future as queen is out of the question.
“King Charles was so impressed with her grace and grit that he bestowed a singular honor on Kate, making her a Royal Companion of Honour, an unmistakable sign of his faith in her ability to help carry the monarchy forward,” he told Fox in early 2025.
“But beyond that, the king is not about to be giving Kate advice about being a future queen. That would simply give oxygen to the notion that he might not be around much longer, and Charles III intends to stay put on the throne for years to come.”
Andersen continued by stating that Queen Camilla is not interested in speaking with Kate about her life as queen. He claims they have a “grudging respect for each other.” No matter what happens—or when it happens—broadcaster Helena Chard states that King Charles is absolutely sure that Kate will be a fantastic queen.
“King Charles is comforted by the fact that Princess Catherine puts family first and wouldn’t want it any other way. The well-being of the future heirs is paramount. He knows that when the time comes, she will seamlessly transition into the perfect future queen,” she told Fox.
Kate is on the “forefront” of the Royal Family, former butler says
Prince William and Kate Middleton are, whether you like it or not, the future of the monarchy. The way they are raising Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis has been seen as a clear sign of how they want to modernize the Royal Family and how it is perceived.
But as mentioned, how they act in public has also, in some way, shown that they are very much human just like anyone else. And while Prince William is brought up within the Royal Family and learned “the hard way” how a royal should act, there are telling signs of his and his wife’s chemistry in public.
Speaking on behalf of Slingo, the former royal butler Grant Harrold, who worked for King Charles, stated that Kate “looked amazing” for Trooping the Colour and “made everyone proud,” being at the “forefront of the Royal Family.” per Marie Claire.
Harrold added, “Everyone’s eyes were on William and Kate. They are the future of the monarchy, the future King and Queen. They were very confident. It was lovely to see a very modern approach to the Royal Family and Trooping the Colour.”
Moreover, speaking to Hello Magazine, Dr. Arthur Cassidy, a member of the British Psychological Society, stated that Prince William and Kate Middleton showed an “authentic masterclass” for the significant event.
“Prince William…devoted father and protector…shows for a few milliseconds, a tight upper lip as he faces Princess Kate,” Dr. Cassidy told Hello! “This signifies his positive emotional state as he’s deeply in love with his wife Kate.”

Further, the doctor added that William showed off body language, which gave away that he’s “physically attracted” to Kate. Also, Cassidy said that “this produces an intense inner emotional reaction to Princess Catherine’s long-lasting loving gaze. His lips then become more relaxed.”
As for Kate’s response, the doctor added that the princess was “glowing with positive emotions and energy expressed in her toned body posture and facial characteristics.”
Although Kate is not yet back to her regular schedule, that may change in the coming months. Not only has Kate carefully planned her time, but she and William also appear to have a plan in place. While it could take years for William to take the throne as king and Kate to become queen, a person described as a “friend” of the couple says they are preparing for “shifts” in the coming months.
The friend told People that “some major shifts coming behind the scenes,” adding that both the Prince and Princess of Wales are building their respective teams for their ascension.
“They are really finessing what works and what doesn’t,” the friend added.
