Sherri Kent, a grieving mother, is raising awareness about the perils of opiate use after losing her 22-year-old son, Michael, to a fatal fentanyl overdose. Fentanyl, an opioid 50-100 times more potent than morphine, tragically claimed his life.
In a poignant Facebook post, Sherri shared her son’s story and emphasized that Michael was not an addict but had made a fateful mistake. Michael overdosed after purchasing drugs from an unidentified man the day after being warned by his sister not to take the pills. Paramedics found him in cardiac arrest, and despite efforts, he didn’t survive.
Sherri’s message highlights the alarming rise in opioid-related deaths, particularly due to the potent drug fentanyl. She stresses that the issue is not limited to her area, as Canada, in particular, is grappling with an epidemic that claims 5-7 lives daily.
In her viral post, Sherri thanked everyone for their condolences and prayers and expressed her gratitude for the opportunity to raise awareness about the dangers of modern drug use, hoping it will protect other young lives. She shared how she had the chance to lay with her son in his final moments, telling him she was still proud of him despite the tragic outcome.
